PORCELAIN VENEERS

What are Porcelain Veneers?

Porcelain Veneers, also known as Dental Veneers, Porcelain Laminate Veneers, or Laminate Veneers, are a thin shell of porcelain or ceramic that is bonded to the front of your tooth. Depending on the type of preparation or type of material or lab used, they can also be known by other names as well. Dr Edward Alvarez is an expert cosmetic dentist who can do same day veneers in our Manhattan office using the CEREC system.

Porcelain veneers can be used to:

  • Change the shape of a tooth

  • Change the color of a single discolored tooth

  • Change the color of dark or stained teeth

  • Change the size of a tooth

  • Close gaps between teeth

  • Change the symmetry of your teeth and smile

How are Porcelain Veneers made?

Dental Veneers are very thin, sometimes less than a millimeter in thickness. They can either be fabricated in a dental laboratory after impressions are done, or they can be done the same day, in our Manhattan office by Dr. Alvarez, using the CEREC CAD/CAM system.

Dr. Edward A. Alvarez is a leading New York City cosmetic dentist, and an expert at creating Porcelain Veneers on the CEREC CAD/CAM system for over a decade. Advantages to doing your Dental Veneers on the CEREC include:

  • Same Day Dentistry, which is same day fabrication and cementation of your permanent Porcelain Veneers, at no additional cost

  • No uncomfortable impressions

  • No temporaries to we worn that can fall out while waiting weeks for your permanents to return from the lab

  • Designed on a 3D virtual computer model, with you as a partner in the design of your own Porcelain Veneers

  • Any corrections can be done immediately without sending back to a laboratory and having to wait weeks while going back into temporaries

  • Choice of shade and types of porcelain such as e.max, feldspar, and others done by you while in the chair

  • Long term studies show the strength and success of CEREC Veneers

Nonetheless, should you still want your Porcelain Veneers done by a dental laboratory, that option is always available to you.

What are some of the advantages of Porcelain Veneers, and how long do they last?

Dr. Edward A Alvarez has been placing Porcelain Veneers for almost 24 years, and has many cases done in the late 1990's that still look great today!

Typically, Porcelain Veneers can last up to 20 years or more. It truly depends on the expertise of the cosmetic dentist, such as Dr. Alvarez, as well as the home-care and dental maintenance of them. Routine dental cleanings and checkups in our Manhattan office are imperative in keeping Dental Veneers looking great and in great shape. Dental Veneers will never change shape or color, and made with the appropriate porcelain, they will not damage any other teeth.

The longevity of Porcelain Veneers will in the long run offset any Porcelain Veneer cost.

A beautiful smile....

In no way should porcelain veneers, aka dental veneers ever look thick, or give you that "chicklet" look. Dr. Alvarez's goal as a cosmetic dentist is to always give you the most beautiful and natural looking veneers possible.
